Updated: Sep 8, 2020

Trimbakeshwar Temple: A temple in Maharashtra province Nashik is located thirty kilometers west of Nashik district. It is also called Trimbak Jyotirlinga, Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple.

Here Godavari river originates from the mountain named Brahmagiri. Just as the holy river Ganga flowing in North India has a special spiritual significance, in the same way, this holy river Godavari flowing in the south has special significance.

While the Ganga of north India is called 'Bhagirathi', this Godavari river is called 'Gautami Ganga'. If Bhagirathi is the becuase of the tapshya by King Bhagiratha, and Godavari came on Earth because of Gautama's tapshya.

Celebration of Maha Kumbh

One of the famous four Mahakumbh Melas in the country, the Mahakumbh fair takes place here. Here, every twelfth year when Jupiter debuts on Leo sign and Surya Narayana is also situated on Leo sign, then Mahakumbh festival, bathing, fair, etc. are the ceremonies of religious acts. In those days, bathing in the Godavari Ganga is said to be a spiritual virtue.
