Sri Kanteshwar Temple | Nanjundeshwar Temple, Karnataka

Nanjundeshwar Temple is also known as Sri Kanteshwar Temple. It is a Shiva temple and is built in the Dravidian style. According to the ancestors, Lord Shiva resided in this temple. This temple was built by the Ganga rulers and was looked after by the Hoysala kings. Historians say that Tipu Sultan's sick elephant was cured after many prayers offered at the Sri Kanteshwar temple.

That is why Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali had unwavering faith in the Nanjundeshwar or Sri Kanteshwar temple. The locals believe that visiting this temple relieves the suffering of the devotees. Rathotsav is celebrated twice a year here. The race is also called Jatre.


In this Jatra, the idol of Lord Ganesha, Shri Kanteshwar, Subramanya, Chandrakeshwar, and Goddess Parvati is installed in different chariots and starts the rituals by offering prayers. Thousands of people gather to see this festival.


Really, this temple is worth visiting.
