Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is an important tourist destination in District Pauri Garhwal and is 32 km from Rishikesh, located at the foot of the Himalayan mountains in Garhwal, Uttaranchal. Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is one of the most revered temples of Rishikesh.
It is said that Lord Shiva ingested the poison emanating from the sea churning at this place. At the same time, his wife, Parvati, strangled him so that the poison did not reach his stomach. In this way, the venom remained in his throat.
After poisoning, his throat became blue due to the effects of poison. He is known as Neelkanth due to his throat turning blue. This impressive temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. There is a waterfall in the temple premises where devotees take a bath before visiting the temple.
