World Iodine Deficiency Day or Global Iodine Disorders Prevention Day is observed every year on 21 October .
The idea to celebrate this Day iodine to generate awareness about the adequate use of iodine and to highlight the consequences of the lack of Iodine as these disorders have become a major public health problem worldwide.
In today's scenario, one third of the world's population is at risk of suffering from iodine deficiency disorder. According to the World Health Organization WHO, iodine deficiency still exists in about 54 countries.
Importance of Iodine
Iodine is a micronutrient, which is essential for human growth and development. Iodine is a microporous element essential for the growth and thyroid process of a growing baby's brain, iodine also regulates our body temperature, aids in development and is an essential component of the fetal nutrients, making iodine balance in the body.
The function of thyroxine is hormones which are secreted by the thyroid gland, the endocrine gland of man, mainly iodine deficiency due to iodine deficiency.
