History and Facts of Kausani
Kausani is a beautiful hill station situated at an altitude of about 6075 feet above sea level. Apart from the huge Himalayas, there is a grand view of Nandakot, Trishul, and Nanda Devi mountain from here. This hill town is situated on the top of a hill amidst the thick trees of the pine and offers a wonderful view of the beautiful valleys of Someshwar, Garuda, and Baijnath Katyuri.
A long time ago, Kasauni was part of the Almora district and was known as Valna. At that time, Almora district came under the jurisdiction of King Baichaldev of Katyuri. Later, the king gave a large part of it to Shri Chand Tiwari, a Brahmin from Gujarat. Mahatma GandhiImpressed by the grandeur of this place, this place was called Switzerland of India.
