Indian Air Force



Indian Air Force Day is observed every year on 8 October. The Air Force came into existence on October 8, 1932, with the passage of the Indian Air Force Bill by the Indian legislature.


The establishment: October 8, 1932


First Flight: The first helicopter to be flown by ' Indian Air Force ' was 'Sikorsky', used between 1954 and 1966.


Total Command: Five- Western Command, Central Command, Eastern Command, South-Western Command, Southern Command.


Special: Today, the Indian Air Force has more than 500 helicopters and M.I. There are 26 heavy helicopters, which are the pride of the army.


Other Information

So far the Air Force has flown 73 different types of aircraft manufactured by different countries. During the decades of the 1930s and 1950s, it has flown one-engine duel planes like 'Vapiti' and 'Tiger Moth'.


Introduction to Indian Air Force


Indian Air Force was established on 8th October 1932 and on 1st April 1954, Air Marshal Subroto Mukherjee who was in the Indian Navy as a founding member took charge of leading the first IAF.


Over time, the Indian Air Force has made extensive upgrades to its aeroplanes and equipment and has added 20 new types of aircraft as part of this process.


In the last decade of the 20th century, extraordinary changes were made to the structure for the initiative to induct women into the Indian Air Force, who were hired for short service commissioning, at a time when the Air Force took on some of the riskiest tasks ever.


History


The Indian Air Force is the newest part of the Indian Armed Forces. The Air Force came into existence on 8 October 1932 with the passage of the Indian Air Force Bill by the Indian legislature. However, on 1 April 1933, the first air squad was formed, which became part of a numbered squadron.


It consisted of six Royal Air Force trained officers, 19 airmen and four returning to Westland. There were military cooperation aircraft. The number 1 squadron was the only organization of the Indian Air Force at the start of World War II. At that time there were 16 officers and 662 soldiers in the Air Force.



In 1939, it was proposed that five air squads should be arranged on a voluntary basis to protect the main ports.


Madras (present Chennai) First air squad, second in Bombay (present-day Mumbai ), third in Calcutta (present-day Kolkata ), fourth in Karachi, fifth in Cochin (present-day Kochi ) and later a sixth air squad in Visakhapatnam. By the end of 1944, there were nine squadrons in the Indian Air Force.




The first established Air Force centres are at Agra, Pune, Ambala, Chandigarh and Bangalore. In March 1945, the Indian Air Force was given the prefix of Royal. This award was given to him for his commendable contribution to World War II.


August 1945 war ended the situation in the Royal Indian were 28,500 personnel in the Air Force, of which 1,600 officers. At the time of India 's independence on 15 August 1947, the assets of the Royal Indian Air Force were divided between India and Pakistan.


Two of the 10 squadrons of the forefront were awarded to the newly formed Royal Pakistan Air Force. The Royal Prefix was removed when India became a republic under the British Commonwealth in January 1950. At that time, the Indian Air Force had six combat squadrons of Spitfire, Vampire and Tempest.




The number of these squadrons increased further in the coming years. Old and worn-out aircraft were removed and replaced with modern and superior aircraft.
